Tsavo National Park in Kenya used to be one park but later was separated by the Mombasa or Nairobi road from Tsavo East, Tsavo West that makes up the great Tsavo eco-system. The park borders the Chulu hills National Park and Mkomazi Game Reserve in Tanzania. The park is generally flat and with dry plain across which River Galana flows.
Tsavo West National Park
Located in the southern border with Tanzania, it’s one of the largest protected areas in Africa with 9000sqkms. The vast protected area is famous for its red skinned elephants and the story of the man eaters of Tsavo that became a big challenge during 1898 and led to a halt in the construction of Mombasa Nairobi railway. Both parks can be accessed by road and air transport. By Air transport, for chartered flights in Kenya, the best airstrips are: Mtito Andei, Jipe, Mkaktau, Ziwani, Kasigau, Tsavo and Chyulu gate. For both parks.
Tsavo East
By road transport, you can use private or public means, it’s southeast of Nairobi, about 173km Northwest of Mombasa. And connect to the park through Bachuma gate, Manyani ate for those connecting from Voi, and Sala gate for those from Malindi.
Tsavo West
By road transport, the park is 27km from Nairobi, you can use Mtito Andei gate and 188km from Mombasa, you can use Tsavo gate. With use of either with public or private means.

When to visit Tsavo National Park
Both parks can be visited throughout the year but the most ideal season is the dry season which runs from June-October and January- February. The wet season runs from November-December and from March- May.
The dry season
The season is characterized of sunny weather almost throughout and wildlife in the park is easily spotted since the grasses are short.
The park is dry enough and trails are passable for those on walk safaris. There less risks of tourists catching malaria. Sometimes it gets so dry and dusty in the park and haze might affect clear views.
The wet Season

Await to have clear views of antelopes (duikers, water bucks, impalas, gerenuk, Oryx, gazelles, Hirola, suni, Coke’s hartebeests and lesser kudus ), Lions, leopards, buffalos, cape buffaloes, elephants, primates (vervet monkeys, bush babies, yellow baboons greater galagos, sykes monkeys ) Africa hunting dogs, bat eared foxes, African Civets, squirrels, Serval and clawless Otters, large spotted genets, crested porcupines, side striped jackals, Masai giraffes, crocodiles, common zebras, Grevy’s zebras, hippos, cheetahs, aardwolf, rat species, Mongooses (dwarf mongoose, Marsh mongoose, white tailed mongoose, banded mongoose, slender mongoose, and Egyptian Mongoose) among others especially in the dry season. Wildlife in Tsavo East better viewed for the park is dry and the grass is short. Tsavo West is wet with taller grasses.

Mudanda Rock
This lies in Tsavo East and it’s strategically located and acts as a water catchment that supplies a natural dam below it. Animals especially elephants can be found in the area.
Yatta Plateau
Lies in Tsavo East, is the world’s longest lava flow, with 29km was formed by lava from Ol Doninyo Sabuk Mountain. It runs along the western boundary of the park above the Athi River. Come and have a look at this remarkable feature.
Lugard Falls
Located in Tsavo East, along Galana River, lies the breathtaking falls that you should see. They were named after Fredrick Lugard. You will enjoy a series of white rapid water flow.
Aruba Dam
