Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Following breakfast, you will drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way to the Park, you will visit a number of historical plus cultural sites within Butare plus Nyanza. Stop by the National Museum as well as the National University found in Butare. You will as well visit the Old King’s Palace (also known as Old Mwami’s palace) found in Nyanza to have a cultural experience. Take lunch in the town of Butare and continue with the journey to Nyanza where you will arrive in the evening. dine and overnight rest at Gisakura guest House or Nyungwe Forest Lodge
Day 2: Chimpanzee trek in Nyungwe
right after breakfast, go to track chimpanzees in the verdant rain forest. You’ll first go to the Park headquarters where you will be briefed by the Park rangers and then eventually begin your trek in the Forest as you look for the chimpanzees. During the trek you will have the chance to see various primates such as the Rwenzori colobus, Silver monkey, Chimpanzees, the Grey cheeked Mangabey, L’hoests monkey and the Owl faced monkey. Head back to the lodge where you will rest and have your meals. Overnight rest at Nyungwe Forest Lodge or ORTPN Gisakura guest house.
Day 3: Transfer to Ruhengeri
Today you will drive to Ruhengeri town which is close to Volcanoes National Park. on arrival, you will have a brief tour around this town and also visit the vibrant local markets. Eventually you will head to your lodge for dinner and the overnight. Options are: Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge, Kinigi Guest House or Mountain Gorilla View Lodge
Day 4: Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park
You will head to the Park headquarters where you will be allocated to a Gorilla group. There you will be shortly briefed about the mountain Gorilla tracking rules. After this the guide and ranger will accompany you as you search the forest for these giant Apes. Slowly you will search the Volcano Virunga Hills and the verdant Valley for the gorillas and this activity is in some way tiring but on coming face to face with the Gorillas, all the exhaustion you went through will come to pass as you will have an hour in their presence observing and taking photos of them. Later you will return to your lodge to rest and ponder on the memorable gorilla experience. You will visit the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera in the evening for a cultural experience. Dine and overnight rest at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge, or Kinigi Guest House, or Mountain Gorilla View Lodge
Day 5: Transfer back to Kigali
After breakfast you’ll transferred to the capital city Kigali for a brief city tour to visit the Genocide memorial sites, busy markets and the Local schools. Later be dropped off at the Airport for your departure flight.
