Have you ever heard of man eaters? This trip will take you to magnificent Kenya, a country endowed with nature’s beauties. You will have an opportunity of exploring Tsavo East and Tsavo West tourist destinations, for the best views of the game, bird watching, hiking activities, cultural visits, and wonderful sceneries. You will enjoy complete wilderness in these parks. The trip will start and end in Nairobi.

Tsavo West National Park

The park is located in the southern border with Tanzania, it’s one of the largest protected areas in Africa with 9000sqkms. The vast protected area is famous for its red skinned elephants and the story of the man eaters of Tsavo that became a big challenge during 1898 and led to a halt in the construction of Mombasa Nairobi railway. The park is mountainous, wet with swamps, lakes like Jipe, and springs like Mzima.

Tsavo East National Park

The beautiful park was gazetted in 1948, and is one of the oldest park in the country, covering over 13,747sqkms.The park lies within a Semi-arid zone that was formerly referred to as ‘Taru Desert’ and is close to Voi town in Taita -Taveta County, of the former coast province of Kenya. The park borders the Chulu hills National Park and Mkomazi Game Reserve in Tanzania. The park is generally flat and with dry plain across which River Galana flows. Tsavo National park used to be one park but the construction of Mombasa road from Tsavo East, separated the parks. Both share Tsavo River that comes from the West to the East.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Tsavo West

Our guide will meet you at your place of accommodation in Nairobi, warmly welcome you and brief you about your trip. He will be your guide throughout your trip. From the hotel he will drive to your first destination which is Tsavo East. You will enjoy the road trip as he will be explaining to you some of the features you will meet along the way. When you reach, you will immediately check-in in your place of accommodation. You will later on have lunch and relax.

After your lunch, you will embark on an evening game drive to view wildlife in the area. You will have closer views of the likes of water bucks, impalas, gerenuk, Oryx, gazelles, lions, leopards, buffalos, cape buffaloes, elephants, primates among others. On the same drives, lookout for birds in the area that have a home in the park.

After the game drive, you will return to your place of accommodation for dinner and overnight rest as you await for the next day.

Day 2: Full day in Tsavo West (Game drive, walk safaris, hiking)

After you breakfast, you will embark on a morning game drive in the park. On this you will be able to meet more wildlife and birds some of which you might not have seen in the park. The likes of primates like: vervet monkeys, bush babies, yellow baboons greater galagos, sykes monkeys, Africa hunting dogs, bat eared foxes, African Civets, squirrels, Serval and clawless Otters, large spotted genets, crested porcupines, side striped jackals and other mammals will be seen. After the game drive, you will be returned to the hotel in due time for lunch. You will relax for a moment and then head on for another activity. After lunch you will have hiking and walk safaris to visit the physical features that the park holds among which are:

You will visit Chaimu Volcanic Crater and lava field. It’s commonly known as the devil’s crater. There’s a trail that can be followed to explore the area. On top of this, you will want to check out the Shetani Lava flow. It’s located at the entrance of Chulu gate. The lava is believed to be at least 500years old and it is 8km long, 1.6wide, and 5km deep. The views of this lava gives you a clear imagination of how the eruption happened.

You will also visit Mzima Springs that flow close to Chulu Hills. The uniqueness of these springs lies in the fact that the pure water comes from underground. The springs are a source of water for Mombasa City. At the Springs, you will enjoy views of hippos and crocodiles. If you still have energy, you will take a hike on the Five Sister’s Hills. The hills are cone shaped the beautiful to see. Tourists that take a hike on them enjoy beautiful views of the area. Remember, during these walks, you will meet wildlife and birds such as weaver birds, kingfishers, herons, secretary birds, ostriches, kestrels, buzzards, hornbills, golden breasted starling, lovebirds, African Fin foot, sacred ibis, and Taita falcon, among others.

After exhausting the day, you will be returned to your place of accommodation for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 3: Transfer to Tsavo East (Game drive, walk safari, hiking)

Following your delicious breakfast, you will embark on a game drive to view wildlife. The likes of Masai giraffes, crocodiles, common zebras, Grevy’s zebras, hippos, cheetahs, aardwolf, rat species, Mongooses, elephants, impalas, duikers, waterbucks,, among others will be seen at close range. Birds that will be seen in the park include you will enjoy clear views of the likes of Somali bee eaters, Somali breasted bunting, grey crowned cranes, slender tailed night jar, Rosy Patched bush shrike, vulturine guineafowl, eastern chanting goshawk, eagles, sunbirds, black kites, Rufous chartterer, and Northern brownbul, among others.

After the game drive, you will be returned to the hotel for lunch and a moment to relax. In the afternoon you will go for a guided walk safari. You will visit the highlights features of the park that include: Mudanda Rock, it acts as a water catchment and there several animals that crush the area for water.

You will also visit Yatta Plateau, the world’s longest lava flow of 29km that was formed by lava from Ol Doninyo Sabuk Mountain. The plateau runs along the western boundary of the park, above River Athi.

You will also visit Lugard Falls for explicit views. The Falls were named after Fredrick Lugard. The white rapid water will be pleasant to you. In the same area, you will enjoy bird watching and game viewing at the same time.

You will be returned to the hotel for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 4: Morning game drive and departure

On the last day of your trip, you will go for an early game drive before breakfast. This game drive will be enjoyable to for you will be to meet wildlife easily before it hides in the park. Early birds in the park will also be at your disposal. Enjoy this moment as you capture the last images of these creatures. After exhausting your time, you will then return to your place of accommodation for breakfast.

After breakfast, you will check out and hit the round for a return journey to your hotel or the airport in Nairobi.
