This trip will amaze you with absolute off the beaten track. You will have an opportunity to sight the beautiful Mountain Kenya in a distance, and the wonderful views of the sunset close to Nyambeni hills. You will enjoy game drive, best views of herds of elephants can be achieved here. Await for bird watching, hiking nature safaris and a visit of the former home of Joy and George Adamson and the grave of Elsa. The trip will start and end in Nairobi.

Meru National Park

The park is situated in the East of Meru city, 350km from Nairobi city, in the Eastern province of Kenya covering 870sqkm. It was established in 1966 to protect wildlife in the area after a long period of poaching. The park is a home for a number of wildlife species and efforts putting patrols are done by the Kenyan government to protect animals from poachers. Lately it has reduced and now the park boosts in huge numbers of white and black, rhinos, buffalos, elephants and the rare Gerenuk antelope, among others. The popularity of the park has been accredited to two conservationists; Joy Adamson and George Adamson for raising Elsa the Lioness and wrote a bestselling book ‘born free’, and an Award winning Movie Born free. Elsa was buried in the park.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Meru National Park

Following your breakfast at your hotel, our guide will be waiting for you. He will warmly welcome your, and brief you about your trip. He will then drive you to the park via Nyeri. You will enjoy the road trip, as he will be explaining to you the physical features you will meet on the way. He can even stopover for a photograph moment.

You will later arrive in the park, check in your preferred place of accommodation, have lunch in a while, relax as you await for an afternoon game drive.

Along your game drive, you will enjoy clear views of the park’s wildlife. You will set your eyes on herds of elephants, buffalos, bushbucks, elands, Kudu, bush baby, wild dog, caracal, white and black rhinos, Dik-dik, leopards, mangoose, vervet monkeys, hyena, jackal, bush pig and gravy zebra. Alongside these, you will enjoy the views of flying creatures. Later on you will be returned to your place of accommodation for dinners and overnight rest.

Day 2: Full day in the park

After your breakfast, with your packed lunch, you will head on for a morning game drive. On this you will see wildlife, more that you might have missed yesterday. With your binoculars, you will set out to have an amazing time with bird species and wildlife. Await for the likes of black and white rhinos, elephants, African antelopes, duku, Dik-dik, duiker, baboons, lions, cheetahs, Gravy’s Zebras, buffaloes, and giraffes. Among the birds, clear views of weavers, sunbirds, starlings, rollers, brown backed woodpeckers, Red necked falcon, Peter’s finfoot, Heuglins courser, and Pel’s fishing owl, bee eaters, kingfishers, ostriches, secretary birds, and hornbills, among others. The guide will find a perfect picnic place where you will enjoy your lunch as you view elephants grazing.

In the afternoon, you will visit the must-see places of the park. As it’s already mentioned, the park was made famous due to the book and a movie Born free, written by George and Joy Adamson and the lioness-Elsa they raised and buried in the park. You will visit the home of the George and Joy Adamson, and the grave of Elsa, close to the home.

You will also take a moment to have clear views of Mountain Kenya in the park. The snow-capped mountain is beautiful at sight.

You will also have a walk safari along River Tana, the longest river in the country. It’s 1000m long, with various tributaries. As you head on you will also meet the breathtaking Adamson falls.

You will later return to the park for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 3: Morning game drive and departure

On your final day in the park, you will go for a morning game drive before breakfast. You will find predators and the big game in their comfort zones. You will take photos and videos of them chilling. You will enjoy flying creatures and also check out Mountain Kenya for the last time. Later you will returned to the lodge for breakfast. You will check-out and your guide will be waiting to return you to your hotel to the airport. On your way, you will visit the National Museum, and also have lunch.
